Snow Leopard Eating Habits

Snow leopard is powerful hunter, also called Ounce and native to mountains of southern and central Asia. Home range of snow leopard is about to Uzbekistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Kyrgyz Republic, India, Kazakhstan, Bhutan, Afghanistan, and Tibet. Usually they don’t become aggressive if they are not teased by humans. The appearance of snow leopards is just like small cats and they don’t roar like other species of leopards. They are also kept in zoos and wander around the mountain areas. Snow leopards look beautiful with their beautiful fur that has black and brown spots over the whole body. Overall they resemble to Jaguar. Their fur turns to white when winter season comes and this thing very much helps them in camouflaging in the snow against hunters.
Eating Habits
Snow leopards eat everything they find in the mountain regions. That’s why they are called opportunistic feeders. Oftentimes they prey other animals and preserve them in tunnels in the snow. Snow leopards attach their prey from behind and tore them into pieces. They are also known to jump as far as 14 meters. Usually snow leopards eat slowly and take 2-3 days to finish a sheep or goat. Snow leopards kill large animals twice monthly. In summer months they also use to eat small animals. Small preys of snow leopard include marmots, pikas, hares, small rodents and snowcocks.
Snow leopards also use to consume plants and other things in some areas. Particularly during mating they eat notable amount of plants. They preserve their food that they need to have that time of the year. If we talk about life span of snow leopards, they live between 15 and 18 years anywhere they live. But they have been known to live as long as 20 years.
