Plains/Burchell’s Zebras are two main species of zebras and found in Africa. Other species of zebras are:
- Cape mountain zebra
- Hartmann’s zebra
- Grvy’s zebra
These types of zebra are found in Kenya. Zebra is very sociable animal and usually found in the group of buffaloes, giraffe, wildebeest and antelopes. Zebra is such an animal that keep grazing throughout the day. As far as diet and food of zebras concerned, they eat more than 50 species of grasses. However, shrubs, bark, leaves and twigs are also their favorite food. They can graze tall, soft, tough and short grasses. Their mobile lips help them to eat all types of grasses. Their digestive system is adapted very well for survival. Zebras have single stomach unlike cows.
Zebras eat in quantity not keeping in mind the quality. Mostly zebra’s life is migrating for it is a grazing animal and it has to move from one place to another in the search of diet. Seasonal changes affect their journey for diet. Zebras always wait for rainy season to get his favorite food (grass). If we consider other aspects of zebra’s behavior and habits, they are active in the early morning and dull in the afternoon. Zebras like to drink clean water once in a day.
